Are you a lover of words?

Want to have a great time and support reading in your community?

Join the Friends of the Santa Barbara Public Library at the 7th Scrabble Night for Literacy at the Central Library on Friday, September 22, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. This special one-night fundraiser welcomes all players, from children to adults, beginners to experts, to enjoy two rounds of the world’s favorite word game.

Play with a friend, or make a new friend. Open to all ages and all levels from beginners to experts. We'll play two rounds, with a break for dessert and a beverage. Cash bar for adults. Play at the $20 level (individual player or parent/child team playing as a single player) or the $50 Friends-with-Words supporter or $100 grand supporter level.

Proceeds benefit the Santa Barbara Public Library System’s free, volunteer-based Adult Literacy Program. Scrabble Night helps the literacy program raise funds to provide books for adult learners and train volunteer tutors.

Annually, more than 300 local adults benefit from no-cost, confidential tutoring provided through the 200-plus volunteer tutors in Adult Literacy Program, which supports learners in all communities served by the Santa Barbara Public Library System, including Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Montecito, Solvang, and Buellton.  Adult learners are local residents who gain basic skills—from reading and writing to math and communication--that they need to succeed at work, to be effective parents, and to feel a sense of dignity in their lives.
