Apply for Flight Training Scholarships Now!

As part of our celebration of aviation at the May 20, Airport Day, they will also be awarding two Santa Barbara County teens age 14-17 with a $2,000 flight training scholarship. 

The Deadline for Scholarship Applications is May 5, 2017 5:00 PM . This scholarship, provided by a grant from the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation will allow a local teen the opportunity to learn to fly at the SYV airport.

This scholarship is specifically for flight training conducted at Santa Ynez Valley Airport by an authorized flight instructor or flight school in an appropriately certified powered aircraft or glider. 

Applicant Requirements

  • The training must be conducted during the summer break (June to September) 2017.
  •  The training must take place in its entirety during a 30-day period as recent experience in flight training maximizes learning success. 
  • The scholarship amount may enable a well-motivated student with good learning skills the necessary experience and training the opportunity to solo. 
  • Applicants must reside within Santa Barbara County 

Applicants should submit:

  •  A completed APPLICATION.
  • A maximum 500-word essay on your needs for training, your experiences and your aspirations.
  • Three letters of recommendations from adults who know you (i.e. Teacher, Pastor, close family friend, aeronautical professional, etc., one of whom must be an educator)

The Deadline for Scholarship Applications is May 5, 2017 5:00 PM
