Don't Miss Creepy Creatures on Saturday, October 3

Fall into the fall season at Cachuma Lake! Come witness the beautiful transformation into cool, crisp days and nights. Leaves are changing colors and slowly drifting to the ground.  Fall migration brings many visiting birds to the lake, including over-wintering bald eagles. A serene atmosphere returns to the park offering ultimate relaxation, perfectly pleasant for boating, fishing, a picnic and other activities. 

OCTOBER SPECIAL EVENTS
Creepy Creatures- Saturday, October 3, 11am-1pm at the Nature Center                
Fall under the spell of spiders, scorpions, snakes and other scary things!  Touch a collection of real skulls and bones that will rattle your bones. Enjoy enchanting live music, make a mask, sip witches brew! Offered by Santa Barbara County Parks and the Neal Taylor Nature Center. Free with $10 Park Admission per vehicle.

Lake Cruises
Offered mornings Saturdays & Sundays 10am-12pm, and afternoons 3pm-5pm Fridays and Saturdays. 
  • Santa Barbara County Park Naturalists lead 2-hour cruises that focus on wildlife including local and migratory birds, mammals, flora, geology, Chumash and settler history, as well as history of Bradbury Dam and the Santa Ynez Valley watershed. 
  • $17/adults $7/kids (4-12 years old; please, no children under 4).

  • $10 Park Admission per vehicle.

Neal Taylor Nature Center 
Open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Sunday, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.

ALSO: Kids can be a Nature Center Detective Every Friday at 2pm in August. Come to the Nature Center for a scavenger hunt!
  • Located in the historic white ranch house behind the Cachuma Lake General Store. 
  • Exhibits and hands-on displays for all ages feature local wildlife, birds, plant life, geology, local history, as well as a gift and book shop. 
  • Free admission with $10 per vehicle Park day use fee. 
Four Book and Treasures Sales at the Nature Center! 
  • Saturday, October 3, 10:00am - 2:00pm 
  • Spend time browsing through the wide selection of books and treasures all at excellent prices. 
  • You name it; we’ve got it! Sales benefit the Neal Taylor Nature Center. 
Other Family Activities
Cachuma Lake Nature Walk – Every Saturday, 10-11:30 am; meet at the Neal Taylor Nature Center. Santa Barbara County Park Naturalists and interpretive guides lead an easy paced ½-mile walk on the Don Wimpress Nature Trail. Free with $10 Park Admission per vehicle. Large groups are encouraged to call the Park Naturalists in advance, (805) 688-4515. *Limited to 20 participants- first come, first served. 

Cachuma Lake Junior Ranger Program – Every Saturday, 12:30-1:30 pm; meet at the Nature Center at 12:30 pm sharp- no latecomers please.  Kids earn a badge with the help of a Santa Barbara County Park Naturalist as they learn about wildlife and care of the natural environment.  $2 per child in addition to the $10 Park Admission per vehicle. We ask groups bringing ten or more participants to call ahead and let us know- Call (805) 688-4515.
