Above and Beyond”takes viewers on a journey through six distinct aviation eras – the barnstorming years, airports in the area and how the Santa Barbara Airport came to be located in Goleta, the Marine Corps Air Station, post war progress, business and innovation and space flight, the US Forest Service Air Tanker Base, the Reagan presidential years, the construction of runway safety areas and finally landing in the new state-of- the-art airline terminal.
The story is told through the eyes of pilots, historians, engineers, airport staff and the people that lived through these historic times. Using rare footage and photographs the film captures aviation in Santa Barbara for the last 100 years.
The film will be on permanent display in the Earle Ovington historic terminal at the Santa Barbara Airport.
