By Info on Alpaca's provided by Julie Follansbee September 20, 2015
On the last weekend of September every year, this year on September 26 and 27, Alpaca farms and ranches welcome visitors of all ages to meet their alpacas. This provides a great opportunity for the general public to learn more about alpacas, alpaca products, and family farming.

RSVP FOR NATIONAL ALPACA FARM DAYS

Featuring:
  • Feel the alpaca fleece
  • Tour the farm
  • Experience live demonstrations
  • Learn about raising and breeding alpacas
  • Shop for alpaca products
  • Enjoy a fun day at the farm for the whole family!
Alpacas and kids are a natural match.  Because of their small stature (they stand about 5’2”), alpacas tend to gravitate to those their same height or shorter).  You’ll hear the calming humming sound they are famous for.  Don’t be afraid of them spitting…they only spit at each other and usually during mealtime!

Learn More About Alpacas

What is an alpaca, you ask?  An alpaca is a South American Camelid native to the Altiplano region of the Andean Mountains.  You may be more familiar with its cousin, the llama.  Alpacas are known for their large curious eyes, long necks and luxurious fiber.

Hours: Saturday: 10 AM to 3 PM

We celebrate National Alpaca Farm Day every year when we welcome the public to come see what we do here and meet the alpacas. Our hours are 10 AM to 3 PM. Strollers and wheel chairs are welcome. Bring your cameras, but no pets, please. Alpaca Farm Day is FREE to the public. Life on the ranch is fun and relaxing. Our local climate is generally mild, but when you visit be prepared: wear flat closed-toed shoes, sunscreen, a hat, a jacket if it's cool, and be ready to get some dirt on your clothes. Our Anatolian Shepherds love to have visitors and insist on being petted, also!

For other locations  to get up close to an alpaca and find participating farms across the country and you can find a list by visiting Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association's National Alpaca Farm Days.
